Reconnecting With Your Birth Child

father and adopted children

A lot of young mothers give up their children for adoption because they simply can’t see themselves doing well by their kids if they keep them. When you think your children couldn’t possibly have a good life with you, it makes perfect sense to give them away so they can have a better life with someone else.

However, there are times when it may be in your best interests to reconnect with your birth child. You may want to let your child know that your family’s lineage has a particularly horrific genetic disease, or perhaps you want to be certain your child has grown up well. In some cases a mother may even want to see if they can actually have a relationship with their child, even though decades have passed. In some cases, however, there is too much bitterness in place for there to be such a realationship in the first place.

Building a relationship with someone of any kind is a challenge for everyone. In some cases a grown child will be happy to meet a new family they never even knew existed. They can learn all kinds of things about themselves beyond just their genes. Family is about a lot of things, and if there isn’t a feeling of bitterness with the grown child things can get a lot better. If you want to meet your grown child, there is a great reason to at least try. At that point it comes down to whether or not they want to meet you as well.

Should a Raped Woman Abort her Child?

3door ways

Image via Wikipedia

Nothing in this world is black and white. Every situation has an entire rainbow of different ways to look at it. While some people only see one way or another, two ways aren’t even scratching the surface. In the case of whether a raped woman should keep or abort her child, there are a lot of ways to look at it.

On the one hand, if she allows the baby that was produced by rape to live, it will benefit the cause of the rapist. One of the subliminal reasons why a rapist practices their namesake is to breed. While they might not be thinking about it at the time, having children is a supplementary result and potential goal of a rapist. When a child born from rape grows up, they will be more likely to become a rapist. It’s literally in their blood, after all.

However, one could also argue that every child deserves to live just as much as anyone else does. When a child is terminated without ever even having the chance to live, no one knows what sort of things he or she might have accomplished with a life. A rapist may also be a contender for the Nobel Prize in physics, for all anyone knows. The tough part about making such a decision as this one is in how many things no one can know. While benefiting a rapist is a bad decision, punishing a child for it’s birth father’s actions is another one.

How to Become an Obstetrician

Pro-life and pro-choice arguments and debates seem likely to rage until humans are born in a different fashion than they are now. Neither side’s proponents and advocates seem able to understand nor value the other side’s arguments. Many people switch sides at some point in their lives, usually after having had a life experience that changes their thinking on the matter. However, very few people accept the arguments of both sides with equal vigor, even if they’ve been on both sides of the fence at some point. Perhaps it is human nature to only see issues from one side of the fence at a time.

Regardless of the side you choose, if your interest is in the human reproductive process, you may want to become an obstetrician. This requires tons of study and hard work. But having a fulfilling career as an obstetrician is well worth the effort. With that in mind, you can start by getting your master degree at earnmydegree.com. With convenient hours and scheduling, you’re likely to be able to squeeze the learning in with your other commitments, such as your employment and family commitments.

So whether you want to help deliver babies or help women who decide that having a baby just isn’t the right path to follow at the moment, becoming an obstetrician can be in the cards for you. There are many opportunities to take advantage of this rewarding career path. Just be sure to find a study program that caters to your needs and has qualified instructors teaching the classes. You could be advising women on the best path to follow in just a few years!

Effects Pregnancy Has On Teen Mothers

Teens getting pregnancy is a serious issue that many people are currently facing. Many teens are not prepared to have a baby at such a young age and have to seek out other alternatives when they’ve found out they are going to be having a baby.

Other teens are trying to be safe by using condoms and birth control in hopes of avoiding teen pregnancy. There’s still that percentage of young girls that ultimately make the tough decision and decide to keep and raise the baby themselves. The effects pregnancy has on teen mothers are strong and can last a really long time.

There are lots of physical changes that pregnancy has on a teen and what it does to their body. As the pregnancy goes on, the teen’s uterus will expand and her hormones will start changing. This could cause major changes in her mood, which can cause her to get a little bit emotional. This is the time she will have to change her lifestyle completely in order to have a successful pregnancy.

There’s not just physical changes that a teen will experience, but emotional as well. When a teen finds out she is pregnancy, panic and fear kick into high gear. Teen pregnancy causes them to get confused and unsure what the right decision is. Following this confusion is a lot of stress and even a little resentment toward their baby’s father. Frustration also kicks into high gear when she realizes that she can no longer take part in high school activities with her friends.

Teen pregnancy has a huge effect on the young moms. It’s important to let your kids know the risks involved in having sex at a young age.

Emergency Contraceptives

No form of birth control is perfect. Condoms break, diaphragms fail, even the pill isn’t fail-safe. Abstinence is the only completely reliable method of preventing an unwanted pregnancy. Since most of society (all, if you watch television) is sexually active, science has come up with alternative methods of contraception. The newest methods are sometimes called the “morning after” pills, although they can work up to five days after unprotected sex.

Emergency contraception was developed in the 1960s and 70s primarily to prevent pregnancy in rape victims. The early methods included taking several pills and often had nasty side effects. Newer ECP (Emergency Contraception Pills) are hormone based – estrogen or estrogen and progestin in combination. These seem to work by preventing ovulation. Once ovulation is disrupted, implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterus cannot occur.  The side effects of these pills are nausea, fatigue, headaches, or breast tenderness. The medication may also temporarily disrupt the woman’s menstrual cycle.

The drug Mifepristone (also called RU486) is often called the abortion pill, because although it can be used as an early emergency contraceptive, it can also be used to interrupt an established pregnancy.  Individuals who believe life begins at conception consider this an abortion, no matter how early in the pregnancy the drug is taken.

Plan B, One Step, an over the counter ECP is now available to women 17 and older without a prescription. Women younger than 17 must obtain a prescription from a physician. This medication is effective within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

Many parents and abortion opponents oppose having Plan B readily available to young women. Because contraceptive accidents are often associated with the reckless behavior of young people, they should not be allowed to make life-altering decisions for which they are not prepared.

Emergency contraceptives are for emergencies only and should not be a substitute for routine birth control. Emergency contraceptives do not prevent sexual transmitted diseases or HIV.

Gender Selection

Imagine a world where parents could control the gender of their offspring. Don’t spend too much time, because that world has been here for millennia. Some of us just have access to better technology now.

Historically, most human societies have valued boy children above girl children. Boys became hunters and warriors. Girls became gatherers and mothers. Men fought the wars, provided labor, and inherited the family name and property. Men have also controlled most of the money and many of the organized religions. Girls needed to be protected and because of dowries or bride price, they were expensive.

Female infanticide, exposure, and neglect have always been used to limit the number of females within a given population. In many places in the underdeveloped world, they still are. While these forms of gender selection are not used in the United States, modern science has given us some high tech alternatives. Sperm sorting can be used with IVF (in vitro fertilization) or artificial insemination. In addition, selective abortion can be used after amniocentesis or a new fetal blood test to ensure a boy or a girl.

Although most modern Americans don’t worry about dowries or farm labor, technological gender selection is regularly used. Proponents of gender selection often site medical reasons. Sex-linked diseases like muscular dystrophy and hemophilia occur more often in males than females, making baby girls more desirable. Family balancing is another reason given for gender selection. Parents with all one-gender children may want the experience of raising a child of the opposite gender.

Not all modern gender selection is high tech. Some practitioners claim success by controlling the woman’s diet. Although the pH (the acidity/alkalinity) of sperm remains constant, the pH of the egg varies through the woman’s fertile period and may change the female to male fertilization rate.

Gender selection is as old as the hills. Humans just haven’t figured out the all moral and ethical consequences.

Single Moms

While the number of teen pregnancies is down slightly, the number of babies born to single women in the U.S. now tops forty percent. This increase is driven by women in their 20s and 30s.

Decades ago, the stigma attached to having a baby outside of marriage might have led many women to decide on adoption or abortion. Charities operated homes for unwed mothers where women could have their babies in secret and return home alone. Modern women and girls have more options.

In part, this is a reflection of a societal change toward single mothers. More couples are deciding against marriage, citing no need for the conventions of society or convenience. Women in their 20s and 30s have decided against abortion and are raising their babies on their own. Moreover, older women who have concentrated on their career are opting for artificial fertilization rather than wait for the perfect man.

Many social scientists are concerned about the long-term effects of these non-traditional families. What happens to the children? Studies show more than half the children of single parents live below the poverty level. This single statistic affects housing, nutrition, education, health, and even life expectancy of a child.

How does society at large fare? All of us are paying more for welfare. We are also paying for hidden costs in housing assistance, medical care, social workers, food stamps, child protective service administrators, and special education.

Not all the children share that fate. Many working mothers have chosen to create nontraditional families by sharing housing and parenting with other single mothers or by moving in with parents to create multi-generation homes.

An unexpected consequence of the number of single mothers is the boom in grandparents who, because of drugs or alcohol use by young parents, are assuming full responsibility for the lives of young children. In modern America, many belong to AARP and the PTA at the same time.

Mental Health

Mental health is a level of cognitive or emotional well-being defining the absence of a mental disorder or illness. So the opposite of mental health is mental illness – all 52 brands which have burdened the productivity of employees and health of individuals around the world. Mental health is an expression of our emotions and a successful adaptation to a range of demands.

In today’s high tech society, the medical profession has preserved and extended the physical life of individuals but have not been as intent on preserving the mind. Guess the medical profession is not as much of a miracle worker as they would like to think they are. In any case, while they are trying to figure out ways to preserve the mind as well there are things individuals can do. Mental health is divided into three areas

- well-being emotionally;
- the focus on living a creative life,
- the flexibility to cope with unavoidable challenges.

We do not put enough emphasis on preventive health. It seems we are consumed with healing the sick and getting rid of disease from our bodies. Insurance companies have begun to see the financial value of providing 100% payment for preventive care. But how do you prevent mental illness or mental disease?

There are individuals who have lived to be in their 90′s and are still in good mental and physical health. What is their secret? Contentment and taking one day at a time seems like a simple prescription but it takes practice at best. It is so easy to spend time reaching for something else that you forget to be content in the here and now. Laugh and play is the next doctor’s orders. It is a good habit to find at least one thing to laugh about every day and share it with somebody else so you can laugh out loud. Play card games, join an adult base ball team or a painting class, whatever your passion is for. And about that game, pick a game you cannot win. That has a way of stretching your mind.

Protecting Your Investment in Your Home

Your home may be the largest investment you make in life. If you are like the average person, it will be. With the attitude of a wise investor, it’s a good idea to make sure you pull out all the stops in order to protect the value of your home for as long as possible. Here are a few great ways to do that.

Perform Preventative Maintenance

There’s an old adage about not fixing things that aren’t broken. That isn’t true when it comes to caring for your home and protecting the investment you’ve made in it. If you wait until things break before you care for them you’ll forever be playing a game of “catch up.”  Check the furnace before winter, clean out air ducts regularly, check the roof for signs of wear or the need of replacement.

Little things like this can go a long way toward protecting the value of your property in the event that you do need to move on short notice and this will require you to put your home on the market.

Invest in Curbside Appeal for Your Property

One of the most often overlooked aspects of protecting the investment of a home is investing in the curbside appeal. Any competent Las Vegas property management professional will tell you this. A little low maintenance but tastefully selected siding, an easy to care for lawn that makes use of native plants, and professionally cleaned windows and sidewalks can make a great first impression whether you’re attempting to sell, rent, or even refinance your property.

Your home is no small investment. It’s an excellent investment in your future to make a move today and tomorrow to protect that investment and make it grow. These are just a few small steps in the right direction that will have you at the top of the real estate game before you know it.

Talk to Your Kids About Things That Really Matter

So many families struggle to talk to their kids about the things that really matter. If you don’t talk to your kids, someone will, and they may not have the same ideals that you and your partner envision for your children.

Talking about finances and the need for a prepaid card is important. Talking to your kids about drugs and alcohol is extremely important. And talking to your children about sex, pregnancy, and abortion can be a matter of life and death.

Abortion is one of those things that families just don’t talk about. Nearly 1-million American women under the age of 20 become pregnant every year. Essentially, that means about 3,000 per day are getting pregnant, and the topic of abortion essentially accompanies these pregnancies.

While your children might seem uncomfortable talking about issues of this magnitude, starting when they are younger can go a long way towards facilitating open dialogue on these major issues. Having talked about sex, sexually transmitted diseases, and the dangers of drugs and alcohol will make it much easier to talk about human life and abortion.

Whether you believe that abortion is a sin against nature or a woman’s right to choose, talking about these types of issues will make your children more adequately prepared to make a decisions should the need arise. By facilitating this open line of communication, your children are more likely to come to you if they do get pregnant, and less likely to get an abortion without you ever knowing about it.

At the very least, creating an environment where your kids feel comfortable in talking with you about the things that really matter will be crucial to their long-term life success. If you don’t talk to your kids, someone will, and they most likely will not have the same ideology that you do.
