You need some hard facts, scientific evidence and a very good argument that you’re able to state clearly. When debating and defending your beliefs, it’s important to remain focused on the medical side to help defend your stance.

When thinking about what to say think about who your audience is. Show everyone that you’re empathetic and now criticize those who are pro-life. If you just criticize they will get defensive and stop listening.

When doing any debate, you’ll need to discuss both sides of the topic and dispute what you disagree with. It’s important to include scientific evidence and any kind of ruling that will show favor towards your beliefs. One popular topic to bring up on abortion would be the Roe v. Wade case. For instance, even though pro-life groups do feel that the baby is a human life and are against abortion do to a moral and religious point of view, these viewpoints don’t have any stance with how the laws are made or when it comes to the government. Just remember, just because you feel that life begins at conception, doesn’t actually mean it does.

Also point out that having an abortion means a medical procedure is done. Like with any procedures, a woman’s life could be at risk if her pregnancy is considered risky or there are complications during the procedure. Emergency contraception was developed in the 1960s and 70s primarily to prevent pregnancy in rape victims. The early methods included taking several pills and often had nasty side effects. Newer ECP (Emergency Contraception Pills) are hormone based – estrogen or estrogen and progestin in combination. These seem to work by preventing ovulation. Once ovulation is disrupted, implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterus cannot occur.  The side effects of these pills are nausea, fatigue, headaches, or breast tenderness. The medication may also temporarily disrupt the woman’s menstrual cycle.

The drug Mifepristone (also called RU486) is often called the abortion pill, because although it can be used as an early emergency contraceptive, it can also be used to interrupt an established pregnancy.  Individuals who believe life begins at conception consider this an abortion, no matter how early in the pregnancy the drug is taken.

Plan B, One Step, an over the counter ECP is now available to women 17 and older without a prescription. Women younger than 17 must obtain a prescription from a physician. This medication is effective within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

Many parents and abortion opponents oppose having Plan B readily available to young women. Because contraceptive accidents are often associated with the reckless behavior of young people, they should not be allowed to make life-altering decisions for which they are not prepared.

Emergency contraceptives are for emergencies only and should not be a substitute for routine birth control. Emergency contraceptives do not prevent sexual transmitted diseases or HIV.

The legalized status for abortions is not based on technical advancements. The “how to” knowledge has been around for centuries. Because of the unsavory, underground, illegal nature of “back alley” abortions, women were frequently afraid to see a doctor when complications set in.

There were countless cases of couples attempting “do it yourself” abortions at home, many of which went terribly wrong. Sometimes wire coat hangers were used as crude instruments to attempt scraping the fetus from the woman’s womb, with disastrous results.

Right or wrong, the option of legal abortion allows women to make a difficult choice that allows them to live.

Historically, most human societies have valued boy children above girl children. Boys became hunters and warriors. Girls became gatherers and mothers. Men fought the wars, provided labor, and inherited the family name and property. Men have also controlled most of the money and many of the organized religions. Girls needed to be protected and because of dowries or bride price, they were expensive.

Female infanticide, exposure, and neglect have always been used to limit the number of females within a given population. In many places in the underdeveloped world, they still are. While these forms of gender selection are not used in the United States, modern science has given us some high tech alternatives. Sperm sorting can be used with IVF (in vitro fertilization) or artificial insemination. In addition, selective abortion can be used after amniocentesis or a new fetal blood test to ensure a boy or a girl.

Although most modern Americans don’t worry about dowries or farm labor, technological gender selection is regularly used. Proponents of gender selection often site medical reasons. Sex-linked diseases like muscular dystrophy and hemophilia occur more often in males than females, making baby girls more desirable. Family balancing is another reason given for gender selection. Parents with all one-gender children may want the experience of raising a child of the opposite gender.

Not all modern gender selection is high tech. Some practitioners claim success by controlling the woman’s diet. Although the pH (the acidity/alkalinity) of sperm remains constant, the pH of the egg varies through the woman’s fertile period and may change the female to male fertilization rate.

Gender selection is as old as the hills. Humans just haven’t figured out the all moral and ethical consequences.

These only children don’t just think they are the center of the universe; they are – at least to their parents and grandparents. Their health, education, safety, and happiness are of primary concern to the adults around them. Is it any wonder they are criticized and called “little emperors” by the state run press? These Little Emperors are usually found in urban areas. The one child policy is not as strictly enforced in the country where more than one child’s labor is needed to make a farm successful.

Chinese parents, concentrating their parenting skills on one child, go to great lengths to make sure their child has every educational advantage. There are even reports of mother’s sitting next to their children in class, acting as teacher’s aide and disciplinarian. Homework time for older children becomes all-important. The house is silent, the best conditions devoted to the student. The children are also given every opportunity to be a success – music lessons, art lessons, and extra English language lessons.

The stereotype of these children is strong willed, spoiled and self-centered. The press regularly runs cautionary tales of children who commit suicide when they are denied candy or are disciplined. There are dire warnings of spoiling children with expensive clothing and too many toys. However, recent studies have shown them to be independent, verbal, and excelling academically.

The one child policy has changed life for individual families, but it has changed society, too. The idea of filial piety, the Chinese traditional ideal of revering and taking care of elders has been turned upside down.

When abortion became legal, the number of available white infants fell dramatically. Young unwed mothers were no longer sent to homes to have their children and release them to adoption. At the same time, society became much more accepting of single mothers, further limiting the number of eligible babies.

Open adoption as an option for a young woman is relatively new. The birth mother picks adoptive parents – they often provide photo albums, essays, and videos of their lives and marriages. The mother can meet the parents and see who she wants to raise her baby.

The mother can dictate how involved she wants to be in her baby’s life. Some birth mothers want to be included in holidays and important events as the child grows. Others simply want to be updated with letters and photos.

The Chinese one child per family policy and the small number of available white babies, led to a startling increase in the number of babies adopted from China. Most of the babies were little girls, given up by their families so they could try with a second baby for a boy.

Perhaps the most controversial trend has been that of interracial adoption. Advocates believe the most important thing is that a child be placed in a loving family no matter what race. Critics believe that a child’s identity and self-esteem demand they be placed in same race homes, even if it means the child may remain in substitute (foster) care longer.

Whatever the politics of the Supreme Court decision, the appearance of American families has been altered forever as adoption has changed.

Given this statistic, how is “Abstinence Only” Education working? For several years, Congress has been willing to fund abstinence only education over comprehensive sex education, although abstinence only is not supported by scientific studies to be effective. Studies have shown comprehensive sex education, sometimes called abstinence plus, which stresses protection from HIV, sexually transmitted disease (stds), and unwanted pregnancy, to be more effective.

Proponents of abstinence only argue that giving students information about birth control and safe sex is really giving them permission to start sexual activity. Comprehensive sex educators argue that peer pressure, social standards, and nature itself have a great influence on teenage activity and it is better to have an informed teen.

Both camps argue that the best sex education should come from the home, but that is not always the case. The days of parents having “the big talk” with their child before the wedding are apparently over. Studies have shown parents often overestimate their child’s lack of interest and underestimate their need for accurate sexual knowledge.

Another approach is the encouragement of “virginity pledges” and promise rings hoping young men and women will wait until marriage for sex. Studies show that young people who take the pledge and then have sex are much less likely to use any form of birth control.

Neither approach convinces teenagers not to have sex. Unprotected sex is a major health concern for young people and the families who love them. Over 10,000 new HIV infections in people under 21 are reported each year. And sexually transmitted disease can cause long term medical problems including sterility in women.

The one-child policy was written into the Chinese constitution in 1978. It was designed to stem an overpopulation boom that threatened destroy the country’s natural resources and economy. The policy, enforced by fines, abortion, and forced sterilization, has resulted in a lopsided birthrate of 115 males to 100 females. Normally, 105 males are born for every 100 females.

The number of girls has been further distorted by discarding female babies by neglect, abandonment, selective abortions, and infanticide. Traditionally, a son was desired because he and his family would care for his parents and carry on the family name. This is still an important family role in rural areas, and the government does make some exceptions to the one child limit for farmers and ethnic minorities.

Another social impact caused by the one child policy is the looming age imbalance of the Chinese Nation. Because of the low birth rate, there are too few younger workers to provide for the aging population. There are reports that the government is considering expanding the population policy to two children per family, to reverse the population loss.

When polled, most mothers (70%) suggested they would opt for two children. Others said they were satisfied with one child and did not have the time or the energy for more. The single children, without siblings and sharing, are often called “little emperors” and are called spoiled by their critics.

Wealthy urban families can take advantage of a loophole now. Children born in foreign countries are not counted under the policy, if they do not become Chinese citizens. Specialized travel agents now book flights to the United States where Chinese women can give birth to babies who will be U.S. Citizens.

Decades ago, the stigma attached to having a baby outside of marriage might have led many women to decide on adoption or abortion. Charities operated homes for unwed mothers where women could have their babies in secret and return home alone. Modern women and girls have more options.

In part, this is a reflection of a societal change toward single mothers. More couples are deciding against marriage, citing no need for the conventions of society or convenience. Women in their 20s and 30s have decided against abortion and are raising their babies on their own. Moreover, older women who have concentrated on their career are opting for artificial fertilization rather than wait for the perfect man.

Many social scientists are concerned about the long-term effects of these non-traditional families. What happens to the children? Studies show more than half the children of single parents live below the poverty level. This single statistic affects housing, nutrition, education, health, and even life expectancy of a child.

How does society at large fare? All of us are paying more for welfare. We are also paying for hidden costs in housing assistance, medical care, social workers, food stamps, child protective service administrators, and special education.

Not all the children share that fate. Many working mothers have chosen to create nontraditional families by sharing housing and parenting with other single mothers or by moving in with parents to create multi-generation homes.

An unexpected consequence of the number of single mothers is the boom in grandparents who, because of drugs or alcohol use by young parents, are assuming full responsibility for the lives of young children. In modern America, many belong to AARP and the PTA at the same time.

Roe v. Wade, the 1973 US Supreme Court decision that declared a Texas anti-abortion law unconstitutional and therefore made all anti-abortion laws in other states illegal, has always been controversial. The decision has also had unexpected affects on science and politics in the form of stem cell research.

Stem cell research was in its infancy in 1973. Physicians had just learned to successfully transplant unrelated bone marrow in an attempt to cure leukemia. Because this technique uses bone marrow from a living donor, it is called adult stem cell. It was not until 1988 that the first embryonic stem cells were developed using “extra” eggs from in vitro fertilization procedures.

A QUESTION OF ETHICS

The question of when life begins became the central issue. To those who believe life begins at conception, destroying an embryo in research is murder. The ethics of using fertilized eggs created a firestorm of controversy and resulted in a moratorium on governmental funding for human embryo research. President Bill Clinton removed the ban, but reinstated it because of public outcry.  President George W. Bush allowed Federal funding of research on existing embryonic stem cell lines and banned the creation of new lines.

President Bush urged the adoption of unused frozen embryos, nicknamed “snowflake babies”, as a way of dealing with the surplus fertilized eggs. Over one hundred children were born from this program.

Proponents of stem cell research argue that the benefit to society, the potential cures of diseases and crippling conditions outweigh the cost. They argue that the “extra” embryos will eventually be destroyed and should be put to a good use that will benefit humankind.

Stem cell research support comes from all corners – political conservatives like Nancy Reagan and liberal Bill Clinton. Scientists say it offers hope of a cure for diseases like diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, spinal cord injuries, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and muscular dystrophy.

Pro-lifers are generally people who want abortion rights taken out of the Constitution and for abortion clinics to be shut down. Protestors that sometimes gather around clinics are generally pro-lifers. They tend to be peaceful, but have strong beliefs against abortion. Pro-lifers generally use religion as the base of their stance against abortion.
Abortion is viewed as a sin by this group, and they believe that life is precious upon conception.

Anti-abortionists have the same core beliefs are pro-lifers, but use extreme measures to make their voices heard. This group has no particular interest in influencing political policy, but instead attempts to take matters into their own hands. This is an extremist version of being pro-life. Although not every anti-abortionist practices violence, the people who vandalize abortion clinics and personally threaten doctors tend to be anti-abortionists.

One thing that the two groups have in common is the belief that abortion itself is immoral. For some time, the current Supreme Court’s stance that fetuses inherit pain from abortion has been in question. Pro-lifers are often in the belief that fetuses feel pain earlier than 20 weeks, therefore surgery is inhumane.

The abortion pill, also called RU-486 (Mifepristone) has sparked new debate. Since a fetus is not surgically removed through this procedure, it is assumed that no pain is inflicted. Still, pro-lifers continue to fight to remove this product from the market and anti-abortionists fight amongst the public.

Given the personal nature of abortions, it’s a wonder that politicians gain votes and attempt to regulate the process. A majority of conservative Republicans believe that abortions should be illegal and that life begins at conception. Most Democrats believe that women should have the right to an abortion with some limitations. For example, it would be considered immoral if a pregnant woman changed her mind about having a baby at seven months’ gestation.

The Supreme Court ultimately decides abortion rights. Since the 1973 ruling of Roe v. Wade, the Court has still been split on rights. As of 2010, half of the country believes in having moderate abortion rights. The current law is moderate, stating that women can have an abortion during the first trimester.

Education for all women on abortion is particularly important, given the emotional nature of the procedure. However, some politicians opt to ban abortion information. This can lead to illegal and unsafe abortion practices.

Politicians on both sides continue to argue whether the law is too conservative or too liberal. Whether you are in support of or against the current law, you can perhaps wonder how dangerous it is for politicians to be the ultimate decision makers in such a personal matter. Keep in mind that this decision is a tough one for a woman.

The key to the argument may not be agreeing on when life begins or if it’s a woman’s right to choose. The argument may have to do with understanding what the world is doing to and for pregnant mothers who aren’t interested in having their carried to term. These mothers are scared and they don’t want the embarrassment of bringing a child to term and the shame they will feel of having to give them up.

There may be nothing legally or even morally wrong with a mother that is making the right choice for her body, but there is also nothing wrong about attempting to convince these mothers that there are other, more safer options out there for them. Giving a child up for adoption is something that can benefit the mother and her mental health, and benefit a couple that is ready to give a child a loving home.

It’s about showing the mother who is thinking about abortion the opportunities that a child could have it put in the right environment. It shouldn’t be a time of condemning, but rather a time of education so that these mothers can see where their choices will land their child. If a mother thinks there is a better option then they might be inclined to go ahead and give their child up for adoption than they would to get their child aborted.

Birth Control

There is nothing wrong with using a little protection. There are many young people who don’t like the feel of a condom, or girls that don’t like the way a medication makes their body feel. There simply has to be a line drawn somewhere when it comes to this. Parents must educate their children on the dangers of having sex without any protection. Beyond diseases there is the overriding possibility of getting pregnant. Parents must make sure kids are committed to using protection whenever they are going to engage in a sexual activity.

Trust

Many teens who become pregnant don’t talk to their parents about it because they don’t feel like they can. Most teens envision their parents getting incredibly angry and refusing to speak to them or shaming their children. Parents must make sure their kids are aware that no matter what the situation that they can always come to them. The want is that kids will feel more comfortable about being open and honest with their parent and they will be willing to tell them when they are pregnant. This will give the parents the option of going over what options are best for the child and the parent and deciding if there is a reason to have the abortion. A parent is a very big part of the pregnancy process on a teen mother. They must be supportive and they must be helpful so that the right decision can be made.

Most people who are pregnant know that smoking while pregnant is not a good idea. When you are pregnant, you are not only making decisions that affect your own health, but they also affect your baby. This is why it is such a big deal for many people to quit smoking either before they get pregnant, or once they have found out they were pregnant. For many people, the thought of quitting is so stressful, though, that they go out and have another cigarette after thinking about it for a bit.

There are other options out there. Some are able to quit cold turkey, especially after finding out that they are pregnant. Others are not. There is controversy about the options that you have, though. For example, many people say that going on the patch, pill, or gum to quit smoking is safer for the baby than smoking itself. Urge them to look at all the options. Ultimately it is their right to choose and you shouldn’t condemn them if that is the way that they go with it, but what you should be doing is convincing them to explore every possibility and then decide from there what the best choice is. Let them know you are in their corner and will do what you can to help them get through it.

The harder situation might be for the father of the child. While it may not be as physically taxing on the father, many times fathers feel a sense of anger at the fact that they ultimately have no control over what the mother is going to do. The truth though is that a father has enormous say in what happens. You just have to be serious about being a part of the process.

The first thing you need to do is support the mother. The more the mother knows she is supported the more she will feel comfortable making a decision, and consulting you on that decision. This isn’t done to be deceiving. This is done because she needs a wealth of support. You must let her know that while you may not enjoy every decision she makes, it will be your decision together.

You must urge her to look at all the possibilities. If you believe differently than she does then you need to speak with her calmly about your feelings. If you feel that you should be able to raise the child then you need to speak calmly to her about it, but you must know that your bargaining power is limited in this situation. If you cannot understand that then you are in for a rough fight that you will lose.

James Taranto, a columnist from the Wall Street Journal came up with the phrase “The Roe Effect” in his column that he writes for the Best of the Web Today. Do anti-abortion groups and legislators think that this is enough of a reason to ban abortion? They would like to think so. Wade was Herny Wade, the district attorney in Dallas, Texas.

The Supreme Court decision was a seven to two vote. Justice Harry Blackmun wrote the opionon for the majority. Two judges, William Rehnquist and Byron White, did not vote with the majority. Both of the judges wrote dissents. There were also what are called concurring opinions, which were written by three justices: Potter Stewart, Warren Burger, and Byron White.

Their decision was based on upholding the Ninth Amemdment and the Fourteenth Amendment.

The reality of the matter is that the debate medically and politically will continue to be gray rather than black or white and muddled in life or death issues.

If the mother’s life is endangered because of the new life in her womb, whose life do you preserve  the baby’s life or the mother’s life? That puts a different perspective on the never ending controversy.

But the executive branch of the U.S. government in Washington D.C. just spends tax payer dollars to sue a state who took the initiative to protect their border from illegal immigrant and the ensuing drug trafficking.

So Washington D.C. and all the starched up senators and representatives, meet Middle America. The hard working people of Middle America view politics as a way to have their voice heard and their way of life supported with tax breaks and responsible spending in Washington D.C.

Health means different things to different people. Randi Sue says her health is good on the day that her fibromyalgia is under control and she’s in very little pain. Bobby claims good health because since he’s had three open heart surgeries, now has a pace maker to correct the arrhythmia, so today he feels great.

Then there is 20-year old Missy who has been obese since she was 9 years old. Today she can walk from the recliner to her bed, and that’s health to her.

Health is relative to what you know as health vs. sickness. Because of this the normal for health has slid down the scale. Individuals just over the age of 40 are on a regime of statin drugs, high blood-sugar meds, high blood pressure meds, steroids for joint pain and beta blockers. Every individual has the right to have the highest level of health as is possible. So let’s look at personal responsibility. There are some key areas that neither surgery or meds or one more doctor will change but personal responsibility will make a difference.

It is as simple as 1, 2, 3, 4 or A, B, C, D — Do what makes you happy, Reduce stress, Eat better, and Maintain healthy relationships. Health is the right of every man, woman and child of whatever age and health is within the grasp of everyone. Every American can make the choice to raise the bar of health expectations for themselves.

Politics is the art or science of governing an entity such as a nation and then executing the administration and control of affairs. Politics can also be defined as the methods or tactics involved in managing a state or government.

Dictionary.com defines politics as a maneuver. So does government maneuver politics or does politics maneuver the government? Even in business, it is commonly heard, Oh he is just playing politics. Politics is a means of manipulating whoever, to obtain a particular position of power. So it’s just the politics of it all.

The quip, Ignorance is bliss does not apply to politics. Knowledge may not be blissful but it is the force needed to propel you to action. Society today needs to know, as never before, what is going on in the high places of government politics. Government politics makes a bet many times that we, the people just won’t bother to try to figure out the maze of posturing and power seeking that happens to get a bill passed in Congress but has nothing to do with we, the people.

Government is an entity having decision-making authority for the achievement of certain goals. The power that a government exerts over its citizens varies depending on, many times which political party is in power. So, that brings us back to the question, does government maneuver politics or does politics maneuver the government?

When a senator writes a bill, well, we all know he or she does not write it, now do they, because they do not even know what is in the bills they write. Their intern or aides do all that laborious writing. The Cap and Trade bill was written for a purpose. Do you know the purpose? The politicians have admitted that The Cap and Trade bill will cause our electric bill to sky-rocket. So either the government does not care about we, the people or they care more about paying back a favor to a subversive entity or to some big union boss who made million dollar donations to one or many of their campaigns.

Senators and representatives alike piled onto the health care reform bill like they were pushing a ji-normous snow ball through one office after another and up one hall and down the other hall of the Capital before it melted with the American public’s disdain. At night when America was sleeping, they slipped in entitlement programs and little and big amendments that they knew the American people would be disgusted with.

Medicine is in the realm of life and death so it seems strange that something to do with one’s health and well being is controlled by a politician up on the Hill. No one knows what is in the health care reform bill but what we do know is that doctors are already closing their practices because there is no way they will be able to financially keep up with all the paper work that the politics of this bill will require. And, if this doctor takes Medicare patients, the payment is going to be reduced considerably.

Exercise
There are few things that are as important as exercise for health. With pulmonary health it is important to exercise on a regular basis because it forces you to breathe more and deeper. You do not have to run a marathon to exercise your breathing muscles. Even in small amounts, exercise will aerate the lungs and the pulmonary muscles. Walk at a slow pace around the block if that is all you can do. The facts of breathing are that unused muscles disappear and atrophy. So breathe, breathe like your life depends on it, because it does. 20 minutes, 3 times a week can be magic.

Good Nutrition
Good nutrition is another element that will help maintain pulmonary health. Obesity limits your breathing ability. Good nutrition is rather a broad statement and rightly so. There are some good nutrition standards that are routine. These are limit salt and sugar; eat small portions, eat low fat, etc. But each individual has a tolerance or the lack of tolerance for specific food items.

Regular check ups
Even if apparently you have perfect pulmonary health, that can change at the snap of the fingers. Regular doctor check-ups can put you ahead of the game for prevention.

Societal health refers to everything a person’s health is influenced with, in the society that surrounds him or her. If the individual is living in a country submerged in war, their main focus is safety and security. If the individual is a patriot of a country languishing in famine, the number one priority will be to find food or possibly look for the opportunity to hoard what little food could be found.

The values of societal health can be reflected in whatever is the dominant health ideology. Societal health values concern health policy planning, consumer choices, and lastly their implementation. If has been proven that if a government takes over the designing of health care policies and health care itself, the quality of the health care as well as the quantity and the efficiency are curtailed. Government is inefficient at best and in America all of the government run entities are operating in the red.

The private sector has its flaws and does need regulation which health care providers follow in conducting business. But those flaws are far more desirable than having some politician in Washington D.C. decide whether Bobby Joe in a society in West Texas can have a heart transparent or if he’s too old to spend that much money on.

The pressure of societal health argues that members of society should be more responsible for improving their health and also of maintaining it and suggesting methods of doing so. This societal health pressure is more frequently seen in Western civilizations.

The importance of societal health follows a discourse of varying pitches depending on the area of the country or of the world. The citizens of Italy and Greece revealed that about 9% consider promoting the health within its society as being important. The Finnish population pushed the percentage up to 44%. Another interesting factor in societal health is what the elements are that trump the health climate. Personal behavior and responsibility are probably always at the head of the list but other elements that the members of society believe affect societal health are definitely genetic factors, the environment and government policies.

Of course, the way to get these services is by laying out cash for them or by having insurance that covers at least 80% of the costs. In many governments around the world there is an established universal health care. In this scenario, the government picks up the tab for the health care expenses. It’s nice until the government manages to wreck the private sector involvement in health care by their illegitimate spending practices and inefficiencies.

American political parties are loosely organized without a formal membership that tracks activities or policy positions of that particularly party. An American can state that he or she is a member of the Democratic or Republican party, but in reality when voting day comes the Democrat is not limited to voting within his or her party. Neither does being Republican give an individual some particular right or obligation only within that party except to vote in the primary elections. The sole factor bringing a Democrat close to the party action is the quantity of participation and the amount of persuasion this individual engages in.

The Republican party cannot prevent a Republican individual from disagreeing with the party platform and to side with the philosophies of the Democrat party. Besides this, once in office, any elected official, senator, representative, governor, etc can change parties by simply stating the intention.

So what rules America — power or politics? Who wins elections  the powerful candidate or the strong political candidate? Power includes tall coffers of money to spend on a campaign. Money gives power to sell one’s self to the public as whatever the candidate wishes. Power includes influence and a well-known name. A politician seeks endorsements from powerful entities to give him or her clout. Politics, on the other hand, is the candidate’s stance on moral, social or political issues or how shrewd a chess player he or she is in running a campaign.

Considering the two big P’s it would seem American politics are being reduced to class warfare. The political candidate wins who has the most money over the political candidate who bases his or her campaign on the morals and standards of his or her principles.

While some women find themselves in the abortionist’s office more than once, there are few women who consider abortion to be a means of birth control. Most women are utilizing one of the numerous methods of avoiding pregnancy, including using condoms, getting the Depo-Provera birth control shot several times a year, using an IUD, taking daily oral birth control pills, using cervical caps or diaphragms, or even utilizing sterilization to keep themselves child-free. The philosophical debate pivots around questions of government authority versus individual rights. There are a lot of rights that we have as Americans but one thing that we do not have the right to is something of value without paying for it. There is a difference between health care reform and health care take over. Currently, no one in Washington D.C. has the desire to understand that or the willingness to accept that they have just passed a health care bill that is tepid but destructive.

The positive to universal health care is access. The negative is lack of access. Are you confused? Well, join millions of other Americans are confused right now also as well as the senators and representatives who are in Washington D.C. and supposed to be looking out for Americans from coast to coast. But in American politics in 2010, not one Democrat politician is running their campaign on the health care reform bill that they blasted through Congress a few weeks ago. Guess their pride has turned to shame over a monstrosity they knew would hurt the American people but were too drunk on power to reconsider.

The Economic Exchange
The economic exchange is regarding what will minimize health care costs while maximizing the quality of that health care. Health care current is access to medical professionals and medical technology. Of course, the way to get these services is by laying out cash for them or by having insurance that covers at least 80% of the costs. In many governments around the world there is an established universal health care. In this scenario, the government picks up the tab for the health care expenses. It’s nice until the government manages to wreck the private sector involvement in health care by their illegitimate spending practices and inefficiencies.

Prior to the passage of Roe v. Wade, abortion was illegal in 30 separate states. Other states had their own interpretations of the legality of the procedure, with widely varying results. It was a legal procedure in one state if the pregnant woman had been raped. How rape was proven in the days before DNA testing is an interesting question to contemplate as, even with DNA testing, it is hard to get a rape conviction passed through the courts.

Two other states allowed abortions if the pregnancy was deemed to be a danger to the woman’s health. Fully 13 states made abortion legal if it endangered a mother’s health, or if she were the victim of a rape or incest, or if the fetus was for some reason, likely to be unhealthy. So that’s 16 states in which, if severely wronged, a woman could at least hope to find some recompense in not having to carry an unwanted baby to term.

Only four states at that time in history allowed abortion on the grounds of a requested service only, and those states were Hawaii, Alaska, Washington state, and New York state. Those were pretty slim pickings for women who desired a way out of their pregnancy, but didn’t want to either lie (or tell the truth) about the nature of how their pregnancy came about. Fortunately, a woman’s right to choose her own course is now the law in every state.

There are people who say that teenagers shouldn’t get pregnant, and they leave off their thinking on the subject right there, never delving any deeper. Fortunately, there are many people alive who remember exactly what it’s like to be a teenager. They know that being told,  don’t get pregnant, while perhaps well-intentioned advice, is a bit short of being helpful. The teen years find kids, male and female alike, full of new doses of hormones which create impulses in them that aren’t so easy to ignore.

One of those impulses is to learn more about the opposite sex, a learning experience that can quickly lead to unintentional pregnancy. The best way to avoid such a heavy and fast immersion into this more adult oriented topic, is to know some things about sex before having sex. And the best way for this sort of education to occur is in the safety and privacy of the home environment, between parents and their children. Unfortunately, due to embarrassment or some feeling along the lines of, my kids shouldnt be having sex yet so this is not something I need to tell them about, some parents shirk their responsibility to educate their children on this fundamental topic.

Thusly uneducated, such children often find themselves facing a dilemma whether or not to tell their parents that they’re pregnant (or got someone else pregnant). For those who oppose abortion, speaking with their kids and informing them of the facts about sex before they ever begin having sex is the most ethical route to take. Hopefully more parents choose this route.

This seems like a debate that could continue into perpetuity. Both sides make their arguments with some emotional appeal, one side attempting to throw religious viewpoints into the mix, while the other side uses statistics and cold hard reality to make its argument. What’s interesting about the issue of abortion is that it is a rare issue which neither technology, human intelligence, nor time seems able to rectify to either side’s complete satisfaction.

People will always have sex that is the nature of propagating the species. As long as sex continues, some women who become pregnant will do so against their desires. And as long as women who don’t wish to give birth for whatever reason continue getting pregnant, there will always be a need for a method of terminating the pregnancy. It was amply demonstrated before the legalization of abortion in this country that women would seek illegal, unsafe, unsound, and unhealthy methods of pregnancy cessation. An easy example was the common practice of hiring someone to perform the abortion with a coat hanger, often in a mobile office such as the back seat of a car.

Such methods often proved to be nearly as fatal for the woman as for the fetus. Even in this event, the two sides had differing viewpoints. Rather than feeling compassion for a scared woman who obviously felt that she faced insurmountable problems if she carried a pregnancy to full term, many people claimed that a woman who died from an abortion got what she deserved. With thinking like this present in society, the opposing viewpoints are likely to never see eye to eye.

Neglect of certain portions of the populace is neither a common nor a popular topic in America today. Some people would rather argue about their viewpoint of the morality behind abortion, than focus on the living who are in dire need.

It’s impossible to say how many people of immoderate circumstances are on the streets because they are mentally ill, suffering an acute malady, or have simply overdone the drug lifestyle. In every and any case however, these people would likely have been better off if someone had cared for them throughout all phases of their lives, beginning in childhood. Often having to look after themselves from young ages, they haven’t had the chance to learn great decision making skills which result from having a safe and stable, loving environment in which to grow up.

Pregnant women who realize this are often the ones having abortions. They don’t always necessarily want to have an abortion, but are always inevitably in a position to realize that if they bring a baby into the world, they will not be able to care for it sufficiently. Realizing their present life circumstances put them in a position to be unable to prevent any kid they would give birth to from having a very bad life, they choose to prevent that modicum of suffering in another being before it can even begin.

While it is a hard choice, we must believe that women know enough about themselves and their present life circumstances to make the correct decision regarding whether or not to give birth. Simply having sex one night, and finding that one way or the other, they’ve become pregnant, does not in itself stand as a good enough reason to give birth.

Perhaps this idea is hard to understand, as it seems that some media portray anyone who has an abortion as a murderer. This is an inaccurate portrayal. Abortion is something that people engage in after a lot of thought on the matter. A host of notions are taken into consideration. Those thoughts usually center around whether or not the individuals who have created the pregnancy will be fit parents, whether they can handle the financial burden a baby creates, or whether a known hereditary genetic defect might be passed along.

Even if a person is adamantly against having a child of their own, they may well struggle with the emotional turmoil that rises up inside of them in deciding whether or not to have a child. This confusion has nothing to do with religion, but is about how the decision affects their sense of compassion, duty, and responsibility. For instance, a compassionate person would consider the environment in which they could afford to raise a baby. If they find that their financial pressures are already too large, it is a compassionate choice to admit that they cannot bring a child into the world to live a life plagued by lack of medical care, malnourishment, and the poor health that these two issues provoke.

Compassion is widely considered a very important attribute to guide one’s better thinking, and yet it can be an exceedingly hard thing to follow through with the conclusions which one draws after engaging in such thinking. The thoughtful decision to have an abortion can be a very hard one to implement. However, by not giving birth to a human being that would suffer mistreatment, abortion is often the most compassionate choice.

The reasoning behind calling these people members of so called pro-life groups in the face of their stance against abortion, is not due only to their single minded focus on the abortion topic. It seems that those who are pro-life in one arena turn their cheek when another topic comes up the killing of citizens of other nationalities in wartime.

Ask yourself a basic question have you ever seen a pro-life banner at an anti-war rally? Ever seen biblical quotes on signs at that same rally that mentioned that God doesn’t condone killing? If you have, it’s not likely to have been a large majority of signs. They just aren’t common at these sorts of events.

What is common is to see compassionate people who think that the taking of the life of a fully grown, educated member of society is far, far worse ideologically than that of terminating a fetus, with no friends, no identifying personality, and no name. The same people who think that war is a bad thing are the ones upholding a woman’s right to choose whether or not to have a baby.

While political division leads to categorization, such that Republicans are generally thought of as pro-life, and anti-choice, and Democrats the opposite, pushing their agenda forth as being pro-choice, humanitarians strive to look beyond these simple divisions. Abortion is a divisive topic in America, with nearly as many supporting its legality as working to repeal the law which supports it as a basic human right, typically referred to as Roe versus Wade. Passed in January of 1973, this law has been in contention ever since, with groups working to repeal it while other groups work to uphold it as law.

One group working to repeal the law is Focus on the Family. Its members believe they know God’s will, and they further believe that God is against abortion. This is a relatively bold claim in an era in which topics from the largest to the smallest, not involving God, have to be proven before they are established as facts.

A group with a ninety-year plus history of upholding their beliefs , which became law less than half its lifetime ago, is Planned Parenthood. Members of this group believe that no woman who desires to be child-free should have to carry a baby to term. Virtually all of the employees at Planned Parenthood advocate the use of birth control for those who do not wish to have children, an important step in the prevention of pregnancy in the first place. From this perch, despite their lack of political affiliation, one could say that Planned Parenthood is a humanitarian organization.

One way to assist in avoiding unplanned and undesired trips to the local abortion clinic is for a woman to use a reliable method of birth control. One of the most reliable methods is the IntraUterine Device, or IUD for short. Part of its reliability stems from its simplicity once an IUD is in place, there is nothing to remember, or more precisely, nothing to forget. Many people are familiar with birth control pills, a pill taken daily by a woman which makes her infertile when the pill is taken. As with anything taken daily however, it is easy to forget to take a pill for a day or two at a time, and this opens the women up to an undesired pregnancy.

IUD’s don’t require anything to be done on a daily basis, and as such, there is nothing to forget for the busy modern woman. IUD’s are a small device inserted into the woman’s uterus by a health care professional, which stays there for a number of years. It is ‘T’ shaped and constructed of plastic, with two basic types available. For the woman who does not wish to be faced with decisions regarding abortion, IUD’s are an extremely viable, reliable option. They do not guard against sexually transmitted diseases, but they are 99% effective against pregnancy.

Finding supportive friends is an important notion for a woman who decides to terminate her pregnancy. Friends will listen when she has doubts about her choice, either before it is made, or later, following the procedure. It is not that rare that women second guess their decision following an abortion. They will often wonder about such things as whether they could have given birth and supported the baby after all, or whether there might have been less emotional anguish if they had allowed the baby to come to term and be born. To counter this sort of mental turmoil, edified and compassionate, well-chosen friends can assist with soothing words when any second guessing begins.

These friends can remind the woman during her weaker moments, that she made an irreversible decision which will lead to a better life for herself. Perhaps she’s a teenager with her whole life, as well as college education, ahead of her. Maybe she’s a middle aged woman in the middle of a successful career, far too busy to tend to the constant needs of a demanding baby. Whatever her circumstances, it is likely that at some point, a woman will desire reassurance that she made the right choice for herself.

Whatever the reasons, when a woman makes a choice to have abortion, she’s aware that it is a serious decision. The outcome of such a choice will affect her entire future, often for the positive, as she strives to achieve her own life goals. Caring for a newborn baby, or even a child, is a responsibility which takes much time and is not for everyone at every point in their life cycle. Friends can help a woman remember this.
