Planned Parenthood of Central and Southern Indiana and an person who performs abortions at their Bloomington facility have been sued by an Indiana woman whom a Planned Parenthood employee performed a botched abortion on earlier this year.
The Bloomington Herald-Times reports that on February 20, Dr. James Howard "negligently and incorrectly" performed an abortion on her at the Bloomington Planned Parenthood abortion facility. The woman, whose name was not disclosed, later notified Planned Parenthood she was bleeding extensively and was suffering severe cramps and pain but was told that was "normal."
She was taken to the Bloomington Hospital emergency room where an exam disclosed she was internally bleeding and still pregnant. She says her medical expenses have exceeded $5,000.
This is not the first time Howard has faced legal difficulties over abortions he's done. In October 1988, he was doing abortions in Bloomington and began an abortion on a three-month old unborn child. He later discovered the child was much older than he originally thought. Complications developed from the abortion and the woman was rushed to nearby Bloomington Hospital. The aborted child was considered a viable baby and it's age was estimated at 23-26 weeks. State law required a second doctor to be present during such an abortion. One was not.
As a result Howard was charged with four felonies. Howard's medical license was suspended in 1989.
